I have an old EM-200 sitting here with what I think is some kind of over-pressure valve problem.  It pumps out of the group without a portafilter attached, but when I try a working (unclogged) basket portafilter, it starts to pump, then quits and starts beeping with all the lights flashing.  I'm about to crack it open and see what I can find, but I was just wondering if anyone has any starting points.

Cheers,
-Jeff

I really doubt it has anything to do with the OPV, most likely it has a pump problem. It is a very inexpensive machine and I take it you have used it for several years. You have gotten your value from it.

You have nothing to loose by opening it up and taking a look.

Sounds like a plan.  I had taken the pump apart a few months back and cleaned it up a bit, but it looked fine.  I'll try a different pump from a machine I have laying around.

I switched the pump out for a different one and it works like a charm!  Thanks for the advice cal, good call.  Just got a PID'd Silvia that I've been playing with.  Shots are tasting sour mostly, but the set point temp is at 109.2 and it's warmed up.  I just read that maybe grinding finer and reducing the dose a bit might shift that sour citrus flavour to a more chocolatey one.  I guess I'm digressing, but anyways, it was the pump that was gone on the Cuisinart.
