So I'm on a low-carb diet. Instead of milk, I use a roughly 50/50 mixture of half-and-half and water, with a single pump of unflavored Splenda syrup to add a little sweetness. This is what I steam with and pour my art. Now I know half-and-half instead of milk is a breve, and I know that water with espresso is an Americano. I've heard a few baristas say "Oh, you want a breve Americano?" One at Seattle's Bauhaus Cafe said "Ah, I'd guess it was called a breve-mezzo." Basically, the mixture gives me the same consistency as 2% milk, but with less calories and about 1/3 as much sugar. Any idea what I call this monstrosity I'm chugging three times a day?

Have you ever tried Fat Free half and half by Land O Lakes? May taste a bit better

FF Half-and-half has added sugar so it can taste better. I use 3oz of regular half-and-half and then add 3-5 ounces of cold water to the pitcher to dilute it. That's still only 3g carbs. With FF half-and-half, it would be triple the sugars. Also, FF half-and-half steams like crap from what I've seen.

Any ideas on terminology here?

Just my opinion, Id still call it a cappuccino.

But I can totally see why one would call it a Breve Americano.  Except if you made a shot, added water, then added steamed half and half on top, in the same quantities, you would have a much different tasting drink.

Off topic, but does adding that syrup affect your microfoam/latte art? Have you tried without any syrup?

I often prepare one without sweetener for others in my house, so I can definitely say there is a SLIGHT difference, but it's not that bad. If I slosh the water/halfandhalf/splenda syrup mix together before steaming, it comes out more or less like milk. I poured art with it this morning.
