I have searched and searched for instructions/videos on how to backflush my Simonelli Oscar. I know it involves the blank disk, but the instructions for the machine does not tell how. Do I just put the blank puck in and run the machine for a few seconds? In one video I found the machine had a valve that released the water when they backflushed it. The Oscar does not have that, does it? Also, what is the best cleaner to use for backflushing?

Oscar has a 3 way valve so it can and should be Backflushed. Just put the disk in and if you have some cleaner use it. Then run the pump till it get quiet and stop for 10 seconds or so and do it again till the cleaner is gone or about 1 minute or 2.
The best way to descale is a tear down because scale can become dislodged and stop up the HX. If you want to see how bad it is just take out your water probe and see how built up it is. You can do the one shown in the video if you want but there are risks with that. (really there are risks with anything like working on your car often something else breaks)

Okay let me just throw in here that I had a big "How do I backflush??" moment when I first got the Oscar because I was going through the steps to do it and would only get a thin trickle of water out the drain hose (the right-hand side as you look at the front of the machine). Then, when trying to backflush again, the hose literally exploded. Turned out it had been pinched shut by an idiot with a ziptie before I got it. Just make sure you're getting water rushing out that hose when you release the button. Remove the drip tray, stick an old towel under the hose and watch while you backflush.
