I have a PID Alexia and am quite pleased. Looking for the next little thing to pull better shots and wondering if these fancy baskets make any difference? If YES, where is the cheapest place to buy them? Thank you.

VST baskets were discussed at length on home-barista.com.  Searching that site should provide the information you're looking for.

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes. Get one. I have not seen an appreciable difference in price. Head to the vstapps store.

I tried Chris's & couple other retailers, but all were sold out.
I ended up buying directly from VST. The price was about the same, & the shipping was cheap.
I bought a 15 gram & an 18 gram together. They sent me a 20 gram too & marked it as a gift from VST on the invoice. Very cool :-)

I ordered the 18g & 20g from VST.  The 18g was stamped (by accident) 17g.  There were a few hundred of them floating around before the mistake was corrected.  Nevertheless, they tossed in a $25 coupon for the error.  What a great company!  The baskets are amazing and really do make a difference!

In my humble, non-scientific, non double-blind experience, they do. I have had my Silvia PID for 10 months now and used the standard 15g basket that came with it (the new, better-than-previous-Rancilio-model one), and within the last month bought the 18g ridgeless from CCS. All using a Rancilio bottomless portafilter. I'm a "tweaker" in the sense that I constantly try to dial in various combinations of grind, dosage, tamp, etc. to achieve the god shot. While I will say that I've never really achieved full god-shot status, my results with the VST in just one month taste so much better to me than the shots from the standard basket. My best shot in the 15g standard was equal to an average shot in the VST, my best shots in the VST are incomparable to anything I could achieve from the standard basket, and comparable to some high-end espresso shops in West L.A.

I think mine says 17! I wonder if I can get a discount on a 20?

Absolutely!  Give 'em a call and they will ask if you want to send it back for exchange or give you a voucher!  What a great company & a great product!
