I have a chance to buy a Silvia and rocky grinder for 535 should iI jump on this?

I'd suggest skipping the Rocky.  With the remainder of your budget you could easily get a Vario even if you got the combo.  Sell the Rocky.  They hold their value well for some reason.  I sold mine for the price I paid for it.

That is a good price and a good starter set up.  Upgrade your grinder first.

I might start with redbird, it is pretty forgiving.

great news. I do agree you'll want to upgrade the Rocky and, in fact, had you not found a very good deal on the combo, I would side with Don (takeshi) to pass on it.  However, it's not horrible...it's just that there are better, easier to control/adjust grinders for what is typically the same cost (or even less).  There is also a stepless mod you can do to it, to get better performance.

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a great article on espresso preparation on www.espressomyespresso.com , called Easy Guide to Better Espresso at Home.  It's #12 about halfway down the right hand column, under "how to".

Looks good.  Down the road I'd upgrade the steam wand and steam knob.
