Subject: Fiorenzato columbina pump not working? help

Hey guys,

I had the machine on for awhile today sitting idle,  the pump would come on every so often to bring the pressure back up but when i went to pull a shot i lowered the lever and nothing happened......

tried turning the machine off for awhile and still nothing. I pulled the cover off to see if there was any obvious issues but everything looks fine.... any suggestions?

does the pump just need to be primed from sitting on but not being used? thanks for any help.

They call it a 52 watt Ulka.  That's the standard vibrating pump for an infinite number of home machines.

If I read your write up correctly, your auto-fill system is able to run the pump to keep the boiler topped up, so your pump is fine. The problem is going to be your manual switch right at the control lever. Either the switch is bad or the control lever isn't pushing it in far enough.

I am not familiar with your machine by the name Fiorenzato columbina, but from the pictures it's very similar to a plethora of machines.  You will notice that as you operate the lever to draw a shot, it opens and closes the valves in the group head but at the same time, the back of the lever is touching the button of an electric switch in the face of the machine.  That switch is what turns the pump on when brewing.
Fixing your problem may be as simple as adjusting the switch further out from the face so that the lever engages it better and pushes it in far enough.

You can stick your finger in between the lever and the switch to push it (And yes, the lever is hot when hot) Dows the pump come on when you push the button?   Good, then it only needs a bit of positioning.

Thanks for the reply, what i meant is that the machine had been on and it was autofilling but then the pump stopped working all together.... Its not the lever switch as i have tried to push this by hand.... Do these pumps fail often? Or more likly the electrical box? Any trouble shooting steps i can take?

Thanks.
