Emailing  Jim at first line about this as I  type.

Was descaling last night.  On the last cycle,  the low water level light didn't come  on.  The machine started to beep,  like a truck bbacking up.

I  turned it off,  and it stopped.  The water had run out.

I couldn't find anything online about  it ,  except that an older vbm  did  this as a low water alarm.

However,  according to  Jim  and my manuals -  this one shouldn't do that.

Any  ideas?  Has  this  happened to anyone else??

That's exactly what it sounds like...a low water alarm. Did it go away after you filled the reservoir? Go back and read the manual...maybe you misunderstood something (to explain why you say it shouldn't be happening). In my mind that alarm is a good thing. My machine (an Izzo Alex Duetto) also turns off when the alarm sounds.

Not sure if it would matter, but I do have Erics  mod,  as  well.

Doesn't help me...I don't know what that is...maybe someone else knows more about that machine modded in such a way.

I  haven't refilled  it yet.  it was  midnight,  and I had to work today.

Will do it tonight.

The odd thing is,  it's never done that.  It has a  light indicator  that comes  on instead. I  dont  run it low ever  unless descaling,  but this is my  third descaling, first beep.

it's a thermocouple in the grouphead  to track temperature  there. Not a major mod.

You said your machine does this...  do  you have a picture of what the speakers look like, in the machine?

I don't have a picture of my speakers, sorry.  I don't see how it would help you anyways. I have a different make and model machine than you.

No, the odd thing is that you didn't even bother to partially fill the reservoir.  How long could it possibly take you to put in a pint of water? What, you would have lost one more minute of sleep? or maybe you have to trudge a half mile down a hill to fetch water from a stream with a bucket?

Or,  this is my first  ever espresso machine. I  may have panicked and turned it off to avoid damage.

I  had no indication it was empty.  My manual doesn't mention  any alarm. I  have a  light.

Jim  at  first line  even says it's impossible,  as  my  model shouldn't have speakers.

So,  no. Since my  water level light WASN'T  on, and the machine shouldn't even be capable  of beeping. , I  didn't think  that it was empty. I  checked the tank  after  the fact,  and did  notice it was empty.

Thanks.  And  no, I  get my water from  the faucet.

Got it...hope I didn't come across as too much of an a$$. Sure sounds like Jim was wrong though...maybe he was misinformed?  So I take it your problem is solved? Again, if you do indeed have an alarm it's a good thing!
