So I have a Solis SL 70 that is going on 7 years old this Christmas. It has served me well - I used it a LOT the first two years or so, then it got used infrequently, and I have hit it hard again for about the last two years. During that time, I converted my wife to a daily latte drinker and we have a morning ritual, which is nice.
Anyway, a couple of months ago, I started noticing that the machine was behaving oddly. From time to time, the steam would not cut over from the water properly, sometimes steam would leak when it should have shut off, and sometimes (like this morning) both the steam and the water would run at the same time. I have not had it serviced, at all, in the time that I have had it. I do keep it clean, but I assume there is a valve or something on the inside that is either limed over or is just failing, and I am NOT handy enough to check it out.
So...my questions are these:
Is it worth having a "service" done on it rather than get a new machine. if the service costs $250 on a $400 machine, and I can get a new (different) machine for $500, I would like to know.
Is there somewhere I can send it?
Does anyone on these boards service machines like this?
