Taking Dave Corbey's advice I pulled the shower screen from the V2B today even though it was only 10 days old.... it was kinda ugly... but it is clean again! Before/after photos below. I also cleaned under the screen and the gasket. This screen has been in use for less than 2 lbs of coffee. I have backflushed once with cleaning tablets about 5 days ago and clear water backflushed probably a dozen times prior to this cleaning.

Did the same after six days, about 25 uses (I entertained a couple of times, also had to dial in some beans so sinked a couple of shots). Mine wasn't quite as dirty as yours. I also am using the precision screen but I don't think it should make that big a difference. I've never performed a backflush with cleaner--it's my first E61 and although I did it regularly on my Rancilio, I've read that using the cleaner too much for a E61 may lead to problems with lubrication of the lever. After disassembling and looking at the gasket, screen and group, I think that my workflow of backflushing every night with hot water is enough to keep it clean. I can disassemble once a week and clean with by hand with coffee cleaner, but I don't plan on doing a cleaner backflush unless the underside starts looking gunky (it didn't and it wiped clean very easily).

There was a thread talking about when to backflush an E61 a few weeks or more ago. 1st-line recommends detergent backflushing after every 50 shots, and they have an article explaining their rationale on their website.
I do water only backflushes after every session. I remove my screen every week or so and soak it in detergent, and clean behind it while it's off. I do a detergent backflush much less often, probably less often than 50 shots.
If you want to disassemble and lube the entire group, or even just the lever, there's a great set of instructions on www.espressomyespresso.com

I think I had about 300 doubles on it when I pulled it. I was just on autopilot and when I went to flush for a shot and the water started coming out ... "funny" I pulled the screen and had to wonder how any water was getting through at all, OK I know it is gross but ... stuff happens, even (or is that esp) when things are going along just fine ?
That works out to, uh, about 3 months. How time flies.
That reminds me, I need to change the gasket.. just thinking with my fingers. :D
