Was fumbling with making espresso the other day with my Saeco Odea Giro when it...died. No lights, no nuthin'. Naturally, after the panic of having to either deal with instant coffee or dragging the ancient cheap DeLonghi espresso machine from the basement subsided, I did the routine Internet search, which resulted in a couple of promising, but ultimately fruitless, suggestions.
First, a question on FixYa about an equivalent situation suggests resetting by pushing the boiler pin ("Thermal switch has tripped on the boiler and can be reset by pushing in the pin."). Both the service manual and an eyeball look after removing the three Torx screws suggest the boiler's pin is firmly attached by four screws, and won't push in much of any direction. Either I'm missing something like there being a different reset switch on the boiler I can't find in the service manual, or this suggestion is for a different machine. (Did not remove the boiler's pin yet, will do so if necessary.)
A YouTube video suggests hitting the reset switch behind the brew group while using a magnet to trick the machine into thinking the service door is closed. Tried it, no joy. (Was really hoping it would be that simple...)
Before I follow the service manual dis-assembly instructions to pull the logic board to see if anything there is fried, can anyone suggest anything less...invasive I might want to try first?
I had verified (with multimeter and can opener ;) that the outlet worked, but I didn't think of the power cable. It looks fine, but I just replaced it with a computer power cable (thank god for standardization!), and the lights properly lighted (well, the error light, anyway, but the brew group is still out on the counter).
I feel really stupid for not checking the obvious, and sincerely thank you for being so gentle while pointing the way!
(When one hears hoofbeats, one should not look for zebras...)
