Subject: Saeco Italia Digital/Incanto Doser Problem

Hi. I am the proud owner of a Starbucks Saeco Italia Digital machine (SUP 021 YDR).  Through diligent maintenance, it has been nearly trouble-free for almost 10 years.

Recently, the grinder times out and will not pull shots.  The display on the machine says "grinder empty" when it has beans.  Pressing the button to pull more shots only jams the doser chute with more grounds.

I took the machine apart and replaced the doser microswitch and thoroughly cleaned everything in the doser assembly.  Replacing this part did not solve the problem.  The machine grinds and still clogs up chute and will not pass grounds to the brew unit.

Does anyone know what may be causing this problem?

Hi and welcome to the board.

There are not a lot of Superautomatic fans here, they do not produce the best coffee and tend to be trouble prone.

If you got 10 years out of it, you are WAY ahead of the game, most do not last nearly that long and they are built to be disposable.

Good luck with it, I suspect that OEM parts will be impossible to get and will be out of reality in their price VS a new machine.

Thanks for the reply.  This machine has been an absolute workhorse for our busy family and has averaged 8 shots/day for 10 years before I recently rebuilt it with new seals for the pump etc...  In fact, the digital readout on the machine has a service mode that shows that we have pulled 28,878 shots over the years!  This super automatic has been super reliable!

All parts for these machines are still available, and for the exception of the digital circuit board, are pretty inexpensive.

We appreciate the convenience, speed, and ease of use each morning and are not super picky about having the perfect espresso- as we usually drink Americanos and iced lattes.

If I cannot rectify the problem, we will replace this machine with another Saeco super auto.  The thing is, I have a fair amount of time invested in this machine, and if it's an easy fix, we'd love to keep it.
