Subject: Question about Vetrano 2b and VST baskets.

Hi,
I am upgrading my machine to a Vetrano 2b. Should I buy and start off leaning my new machine with a VST basket or should I get comfortable using the stock baskets first?
Thanks- Greg

I lived with the stock PF for several months and got very good results (I think I was dosing 15 g with the double).  The baskets are a bit tapered at the bottom which I believe might make it even more user friendly.  I eventually got a bottomless PF and a VST 18 which I use all the time now and really enjoy, but it wasn't a requirement.  I have never tried to use the VST 18 in the stock PF handle; I'm not even sure it will fit due to the stock PF being a rounded bowl shape inside.

The V2B is a great machine; you'll love it!

Thanks for the reply curtG,
Which bottomless PF did you end up getting? Are you using 18g in the VST? I read they can take + or - by 1g.

Gregdreg, I am using my Rancilio naked porto along with the 18 VST basket.  A great set up for me with excellent results!  I love my Vetrano 2B!!

Just a humble opinion here. I do not have VST baskets but I DO know the big jump you will see with your new machine will be impressive, how much more there are to VST, IDK but you will not miss much by waiting for later, I am still on stock baskets abet 21 g baskets, they are fine. Could VST be better? sure I suppose they could. YMMV!

Sharky, Do you know if the VST 18g basket fits in the stock PF? Did you go with ridge or ridgeless?

Hi Wayne, I am excited to see that jump and to have better consistency in my shots, I have had great results from my lelit for the past 4 years but I feel I have outgrown it.

I'm using the stainless steel Cafelat bottomless PF.  I got the narrow double spout with it, but I've never used the spout.  I was surprised at how well the V2B does with a bottomless and it's just so easy to keep clean that way.

I dose about 18g into the VST 18g basket (using my 0.1g scale), but then I use the Chicago chop with a last sweep that removes about 0.5g.

I have the ridgeless VST; easier to knock out the puck cleanly.

No, it does not fit.  I purchased the ridgeless, and I really like it!  The quality of the VST baskets is outstanding!  They are well worth the money, IMHO!!

That's a bummer I don't want to always use a bottomless PF.

I agree!  However, since I use my naked porto 100% of the time, it is a non issue for me!  If I need the Vetrano single or double porto, they are locked & loaded with the original baskets.  I enjoy using the naked porto and don't see going back to the regular porto anytime soon!
