Subject: Help with a Gaggia Gran Gaggia RI8323/01 Manual Espresso Coffee Machine?

Hi

I don't know very much about these machines so if anybody can help me i'd really appreciate it.

I've had this machine for about 5 months - Gaggia Gran Gaggia RI8323/01 Manual Espresso Coffee Machine - and it has been absolutely perfect in every way. Whether making my own grind or using the ESE pods, i've been very happy with the results.

However, for the last week, the coffee it makes is tasting stale and bitter. I thought it might need descaling so i've used some official GAGGIA DECALCIFIER / DESCALER and rinsed through but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. The coffee/grind/ESE is the same as it was before.

I'm not sure what to do next - did i leave it too long to descale perhaps?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks
James

That machine uses a "perfect crema" device. It pressurizes the PF so that the quality of the grind or pods, is less of a factor when making espresso. You do not say what grinder you have but I suspect it is not "espresso" grade.

Have you cleaned inside the Perfect Crema device? Depending on how it is made (I don't know that exact machines device) it can trap oils and they can go rancid.

Thank you for your help. I'm using a basic, but 'hacked' De'Longhi burr grinder, which makes a very fine grind and until now, very good espresso and crema.

However, I have not cleaned inside the Perfect Crema device and will look into that straight away! Thank you very much, i'll report back.

Just wanted to post an update on this. I didn't end up cleaning anything in the end, however, after another week or so, the taste seemed to go away, so i assume it did need descaling and it just took longer than i thought to fully go through the system. cheers.
