Subject: [Solved] Brand new Quick Mill Silvano - Steam problems

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I have received my brand new Quick Mill Silvano. I have been pulling espresso shots with a Saeco Via Venetto for the last 3 years, so you can imagine the kind of excitment I felt yestarday while unboxing the Italian monster!

Well, to the point...

I have been using the machine for almost 24h now. I am pulling espresso shots with outstanding results. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the steam-side of the machine. I have not managed to get steam out of the wand. I have followed the steps decribed in the manual without success (i.e. switch 1 at position 2, rear switch ON, wait until steam LED goes off and then switch ON steam). I have been leaving the steam switch ON for at least for 10-15 sec. I could certainly hear the steam pump and the heating element seemed to work, but it is like if something was clogged. I am inclined to think that it has to be some sort of manufacturing defect.

I wanted to share my experience in this forum to see if there is any user of the Quick Mill Silvano that had the same issue in the past and found a solution to it.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Alex

Solution:
The instructions manual is quite misleading (i.e. wrong!). In order fill the steam circuit with water, one has to start the machine in position (1) and turn the steam switch IMMEDIATELY ON until water starts coming out of the steam wand.

Is the steam pump uptake hose sitting at the bottom of the water reservoir? Sometimes with slide in tanks the hose can get moved out of place after filling and re-inserting the tank.

Good Luck!

I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

I'd call customer service for a 1:1 help...instead of forums...if I were you...

I wish it was a misplaced hose, but unfortunately it isn't. Thanks for the suggestion anyways, Eric.

I have opened the housing and I found that there is not water in the hose after passing through the following component (see attachment).

I have also recorded a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWhN9YmZpAM). There you can see the air bubbles going back and forth (i.e. no flow).

Any thoughts?

Looks like you need to manually prime the pump...fill the hoses and pump with water.

Indeed. Problem solved. Thanks!

I managed to get in touch with QM's Technical Service. They barely speak English, so had to do with my poor Italian.
