Subject: New Lelit PL41LEM - Problems

Hello everybody,

I'm an espresso newbie and just received my first real espresso machine, a new PL41LEM. I was able to pull a good shot, but I noticed several things. I'm not sure whether that is normal for Lelit machines, but maybe some of you had the same issues.

1.) It is extremly difficult to attach the filter holder to the brewing group. I actually have to push the machine against my body or the machine will fall over. After pulling the shot the filter holder retaining ring had ground coffee on the side.

2.) It is extremly hard to get the porta filters out of the filter holder.

3.) The steam arm leaks water when I pull a shot.

4.) I received a model without the lighted manometer, it's just the standard manometer.

1 on pretty much any light machine like that, it is normal to need to hold the machine against the torque of tightening the Porta Filter in the group head.

2 Is it the coffee basket that you are having a hard time getting out of the porta filter? The PF is the part with the handle on it that locks into the group head, the coffee basket is the part with the dozens of holes in it that fits inside the PF. If that is true, normal. There is often a spring inside the PF that holds the coffee basket (off hand, I do not know if yours does or not but it is easy to find out, remove the coffee basket and see.

3 The steam arm should not leak when pulling a shot.

4 gauge, no gauge, light, no light, not a big deal, don't worry about it.

The GRINDER is more important than the machine, you do not mention your grinder but without a good grinder it is IMPOSSIBLE to get good shots.
In addition, you need fresh coffee, that is defined by being less than two WEEKS from the DAY IT WAS ROASTED, not a best by date or a use before date or a day you opened the bag.

Welcome :D
