Yeah, you're gonna need to take it in to a shop to get it repaired.
Sounds like you've got a bad heating element. I don't recommend you try and fix it yourself, given your inability to make your own diagnosis. No disrespect, but a repair guy is really your fastest recourse to getting things back on track.
That said, if you are so inclined, you can open the box and poke around.. inspect for burnt wires, melted insulation.. that sort of stuff can provide more clues for folks here to help.
What year is your Maximatic? Is it a 220V or 110V?
Why don't you do this.. take some photos of the machine, and share it on the thread.. We all love pics espresso machines anyway :)
