After pulling 2 to 3 shots of espresso on my Gaggia Classic, I can't get the portafilter back into the group head. Once the machine cools down (60 minutes or so), it will go back in. We always cool the machine down after each cappuccino and the reservoir is ALWAYS full. Not sure what is wrong. We have had the machine for 2 months and descale once a month.

Portafilter empty or with grinds when it will not fit?

Empty and won't fit even without basket. I pulled the gasket out and put it back in. Everything looked pretty tight. A little dirty though! I wonder if it runs too hot and makes the gasket expand?

Before you removed the gasket, did it appear seated properly?

Over heating is not a likely cause as you can steam without hurting the gasket and you are not talking about steam instead of brew or burnt coffee.

Did reinstall help?

The gasket appeared to be seated properly and everything looked pretty tight. This morning we were hopeful, but after the 3rd cappuccino, I couldn't get the portafilter on the group head.

It's like this every morning. It goes in perfectly and then after 2 or 3 shots, it won't fit.

Sorry, no simple answer.  Will not go up into the group enough to engage or will not rotate?  Obviously when it won't fit the machine is hot, but have you gotten a good look at the group and gasket while hot? Photo?  Anything look different cold to hot?

Can you post some pictures of what it looks like when the PF won't mount?
