I've noticed that a lot of Conti machines don't have knobs, but Sliders to change steam pressure. This seems like it would be convenient if you ask me, but might not be. Is it?
We have a slider as well. Its worthwhile though, cos on the machine that I use the tolerance for error with a small jug is very small- if I angle it the wrong way it shoots up and out, nothing like a steaming white geyser of milk in the face to make you feel embarassed. If it takes anywhere between 8-12 sec to do milk for 1 order and I was using a knob, I might be spending 2-4 of those seconds occupying 1 hand just opening up the wand fully and then closing it fully. With the slider I don't get that problem. The steam gauge itself isn't even halfway yet, so the steam can be much more powerful than that but the roaster has adjusted it to that level. The newer contis are great machines :)
