Subject: MACAP question

Now that I have the upgrade bug for a new grinder, I am seriously considering the MACAP M4 or 5 or whatever the correct number is.  Mazzer Mini just too tall for my kitchen.  Does anyone know if the dosing fork can be easily removed from the MACAP?  I fix drip coffee for my wife in the AM in addition to espresso for me and need a versatile grinder that will allow the versatility for either grind.  I know this is heresy, but reality is what it is, and I don't want a second grinder on my counter top for the drip/french press applications.

Thanks for the info.

Hi;

I've got a MACAP, and while it's a great grinder, I don't think you'd want to try to take the PF fork on and off routinely.  It's attached with a couple of small nuts (picture: Click Here (www.1st-line.com)) and doesn't appear to be easily detachable.  How about collecting coffee for drip into a separate, shallow container?

Guess I could do that.  I use a small pitcher now on my doserless grinder, which works well as I sometimes travel and grind quantities for my wife while out of town.  How deep of a container can you fit between the fork and doser?

Thanks!

Not sure.  If you don't get an answer by this evening I'll measure the space when I get home.

A twenty buck whirlyblade grinder works just fine for drip, too, doesn't it?  Forgive my ignorance, I only drink espresso.

I just read about modifying the mazzer bean hopper so it will fit. One person just cut it down and bought a doser lid that fit perfectly (and looks stock too since it's a doser lid). Someone else used a plastic spice jar that fit really well.

I am sure the whirlyblade would work, but I refuse to abuse my coffee beans that way anymore, even for drip!

It's two inches of clearance on the MACAP.  Not much...
