My Pulser is several weeks old, and I thought nows a good time for a cleaning.

Took out my WLL guide and started. Its fair to say the pre-launch guide for the Shuttle is easy by comparison

Backflush long, short multiple times, blind filter , normal filter, blind again, etc- The simpler the ritual, the more likely I am to do it regularly, and it seems to me that regular cleaning is important.

How often do we really clean the machine (no fibbing and no crossed fingers) and how thorough are we when we do it??

Assuming normal home use (maybe 2-6 doubles a day?), you shouldn't need to backflush that often; definitely not every day.  I generally backflush with Cafiza every other week or so, because there's really no need to do so more often, for me anyway.  I do the following after every shot:

- Pull a few ounces after dumping the puck without the PF locked in.  I usually get let it go until the water is clear; this tells me there is no more (well, not enough to cause me any concern anyway) residue on the screen.
- Loosely lock in the PF and pull a few more ounces through.  I will do the "PF wiggle" by splashing as much water as I can around the group.  I'll lock it in sometight tight to help loosen up any residue that might be up around the group gasket as well.
- I'll unlock the PF and look in the basket.  If there are a lot of grinds in the basket or along the rim I will generally take a look at the screen to see if there is some lingering residue.  I just take a group brush and give everything a quick scrub.

That's it.

At the end of each session I brush the shower screen and gasket, do the pf wiggle, and wipe down the screen and gasket with a folded paper towel.  All sufaces look clean to the eye (via a mirror).  I backflush w/water every week.  A Caffiza backflush is done once a month.  This works for me, but I'm only home on the weekends.  YMMV.
