Subject: Illy livia - PORTAFILTER SIZE!!!!

Jumped into illy livia promotion, applied promotion code (worked after 5th time) and got my package yesterday.....
It was a biggest disappointment - the machine they sent me has some very small grouphead and tiny portfilter (about 46 mm), a few mms thick which can accept only pods...... Oh, and also the machine is Livia 90 Automatic
Went to their web site, doulbe checked everything - it says following:
# Full size professional brass brewing head
# Three filters: one for E.S.E.pods, one for ground coffee and one for a double-shot of ground coffee
Either their sent me wrong machine or their discription is completelly wrong. Cannot wait till they open after holidays.
Has anyone recieved his order? What is the grouphead/portafilter size does it have? Will it fit 58mm tamper?
I will post update after I talk to them.
Marry Christmas everyone!

I have received my order on Tuesday, and it was a Livia 90S as I expected. My portafilter size is 58mm (my RB 58mm tamper fits perfectly into it); however, I have only received two filters: one single and one double. The order came in two separated packages. One photocopy Illy instruction said to use the single shot filter with E.S.E. I found no problem from using it with the E.S.E. at all. I don't know if it has a professional brass brewing head or not?! I think it should do.

By the way, I find very loud pump noise every time the pump kicks on. I talked to Illy customer service on Thursday. The lady told me she would have a replacement unit sent out right away, and wanted me to pack the problem unit for FedEx to pick up on next Tuesday. What a service! You should call them on Monday.

You should have received a Livia 90S with the full size 58mm grouphead. Obviously you were mis-shipped. You should be taken care of in short order by Illys customer service department on Monday.

As far as the 3 filters...you'll get the one for the E.S.E. pods if you call and request it as it is stated in the description. For a wonderful morning espresso get a triple basket for it! It's proving to be a great way to start the day.

Here is my update:
I have called them yesterday morning and talked to the customer support and to a techician, explained clearly that I want a machine for a ground coffee, not pods with a rocker switch (their term for non-automatic model) and everybody was very nice and understandable. They sent me a new machine right away and today around noon it was in my house. Guess what - not only they sent me THE SAME MODEL AGAIN (automatic with portafilter which can only accept pods) and it clearly says on the box "Automatic" and model name is "Livia 90 Pod", but the machine actually does not look anything like brand new - probably a refurbished/returned one. Will call them tomorrow morning.....

This time they sent me the model for pods; however, it came with 3 three filters and two sets of dispersion screen (one for pods and the other for ground). The machine didn't look new. Powered on and found the same loud pump noise.  This pump noise might be just normal for this type of machine. Fortunately this noise only came out occasionally. I will have to live with it since I like this machine a lot. Packed the unit I just received today for FedEx to pick up, and will keep the first unit I have received as new.

With my machine, the pump was loud when I turned it on for the first time which is attributed to initial priming.  It should only prime sporadically after that.

Took a picture of two portafilters: my Rancilio Silvia (the big one, on the top) and the new Livia's one. The latest one is a joke.....
Hope this time they will send me  a real machine...

You definitely got the wrong machine (or at least PF).  Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you for posting that pic. I've never seen a pod PF before. that is the most ridiculous PF I've ever seen. I can imagine your horror on unpacking the machine...
This seems to be totally specialized for pod use..including a completely different, small diameter brew group.
I hope this will be sorted out soon.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Here is what you should have received in addition to a regular Livia kit. By the way the special filter and dispersion kit doesn't perform well. The Illy pod sticks to the head after brewing, and you cannot use this special filter with a regular head set.
