Subject: la pavoni duet question

I just got a La Pavoni club combo duet machine. I'm reading over the owner's manual and I'm confused because it says that a good shot should run about 15 seconds.  I thought it should be around 25?
To brew it I push the coffee button and after about 15 seconds turn it off. I've never heard of that. I've only used commercial machines before and thought that I would push the button and it would run and stop after the shot was done.
I haven't tried it yet,I have to go out and buy some cups this afternoon, but I'd love any input on the 15 second thing.
Also, there is a "crema disk" under the basket, anyone heard of this?
thanks in advance!Christel

Hi Christel!!

Nice to see you here.

The shot is supposed to go 25 seconds, giving 1 ounce for a single and 2 ounces for a double.  I suspect that the Duet portafilter basket is slightly small for a double so maybe you will get something in the middle.

The "crema disc" is an artificial crema-producing device that helps to compensate for poor grind or less-than-ideal beans and makes a fake "crema" head on the drink.  Hopefiully it's possible to just remove that so you can grind and tamp normally.

Semi-automatic machines require the user to start and to stop the shot, so you get to determine when the shot ends.  Commercial equipment is often fully automatic and dispenses a pre-determined volume at the touch of the button.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Jon,
So far I can't get that disk out of there! But when my husband gets home I'm going to see if he has any tools that might help.

I just tried the machine out,and I did everything the directions say to do,and when I pushed the brew button, nothing happened for maybe 10 seconds, and then the whole thing popped out of the head with a loud noise and alot of steam. Do you know why it would do that?I hope it's not broken. I wanted to make a latte, but I'm a bit scared to try it again now. Any ideas what would make it do that?
thanks,Christel
