Subject: Mazzer question

When going from very course (FP) to espresso, do you keep the grinder running?  I know I am supposed to turn on the grinder for every few notches when going from course to fine, but it would seem better to leave it on (lets assume the hopper is empty).

When I did go from course to fine, I heard a hi pitched noise when while turning the adjusting ring.... everything works okay now.

Also, there was a topic on the mazzer how someone believed turning the adjusting ring was bad for the threads.  I can't find the topic right now, but I wonder what other people's thoughts were on that.  I think it is okay to turn the adjusting ring, otherwise, why would mazzer make it?  It would be a shame to know that the mazzer is just good for espresso and NOTHING else.  Perhaps the owner who started that thread was just paranoid?

Thanks!

You should definitly only adjust it while running, this prevents anything from getting jammed since it will just get crushed in the spinning burrs.

I haven't used mine for anything other than espresso, but I have also noticed a change in pitch sometimes when making adjustments. I still keep it slightly coarser than factory setting though, so I can't imagine it being a problem.  I don't think you need to worry about excessive wear by making adjustments either, we're talking about a solid machine here.  I love this grinder :)
