Some days I get a little lazy and want the ability to use a pod. Have you had any luck with this? And if so, have you used a pod adapter or know where to get one?

Ive never even seen a pod. If someone gave me a bunch I might try one. I didnt get a pod pf with this machine nor would look for one. Im still on a steep learning curve with the RV. Getting a steady shot with a known coffee is where Im hovering. Im slowly getting to the idea that I might need a finer grind than the Braun Burr provides due to fast shots. But Im enjoying all the coffe I make and I can only drink so many a day before I approach overload. I still drink reg. coffee everyday as well. Im not anxious to upgrade hardware, rather optimize what I have. Cosidering I bumped into this machine accidentally, Im happy with my progress so far. I doubt I would have purchased an actual machine retail, or even on ebay.
I can foresee a day when coffee promoters give away machines to increase coffee sales on a program like Gevalias, but for espresso. And no, I dont buy Gevalia coffee, but I see the ads.

That day is already here:

I'm always tempted by these things. I've have numerous Starbucks and Peet's stuff that I have gotten for free when subscribing and then quit. This is a little more onerous (sp?) though. You have to commit to buying the stuff for a year or get whammied with a big charge.

The pod appeals to me at times only because it is fast. I think I would drink more espresso if I could prepare it quickly.

I sent an e-mail to the kind folks at Saeco. They promptly responded that the pod adapter would fit in my 1992 vintage RV. If I get one, I'll let you know. I don't think you are drinking enough espresso.

Benk,

If you have the time, I would be very grateful to have a brief wiring diagram of what wires go to the switches (the pump & boiler, too, if you have time).  I just got my Vapore/Barista off the 'bay, and of course, it doesn't work properly.  I know you just rebuilt yours, and was hoping you had at least a rough sketch of where the wires go.  My hardware seems to work, but someone did a lousy job rewiring it (when power is turned on, pump automatically comes on until you hit the steam button, which disengages power to pump.  Not sure what the brew switch currently does).

Thanks!
-Anthony

My first reaction is to ask you if when you plug it in and the pump starts up, is your steam wand knob on? If so, turn it off. The pump should stop. If it does not stop then the microswitch is out of place or faulty. Press the microswitch button and see if it turns off.
I was told to turn on the machine and let a fifth of a cup of water prime the machine, then turn the steam wand off and wait for the brew light.
The operation of the machine is quite simple. If you prime your pump with the steam wand and then turn the wand off, the next thing that happens is the brew ready light comes on. This takes a minute or two. If you press the brew button w/o the pf on, hot water will come out. If it doesnt your pump is bad.
If it doesnt get hot, your boiler is bad.
Take and unfold a paper clip and make certain there is not a clot of dried milk on the inside of the steam wand blocking it.
To steam milk you press the steam button and the ready light goes off only to come back on when the boiler temp is up to steam temp. Turn the knob to turn steam on and let'er rip.
The pump, boiler, switches and plumbing are way simple if you understand how electricity works, and complicated if you dont. If you dont know about electricity and dont have a vom, dont attempt any repair. I dont know you and would never attempt a schematic sketch from which lawsuits might surely stem. If you do know about basic electricity and understand what's what in there, then no explanation is necessary. So, find a repair geek and lure him in with the smell of coffee.

By the way, it sounds as though your machine is working correctly, ergo wired correctly. You just need to figure out the procedure for making espresso which I explained in the above reply.
If you are still confused call William at Home espresso repair in Seattle and he'll talk you the talk and be able to supply any parts should you need them. Good Luck!

Benk,

Thanks--you got me thinking about that.  I had actually called star$ and requested a manual, which came on Friday.  It turns out, it was operator error--and the portafilter doesn't seem to work (this was determined by using my unpressurized PF).  So, I'm ordering a new PF, and I should be good to go.  I just assumed it would work the same as my lower-price Saeco, since they're made by the same company.  But, they don't operate exactly the same. . .

Live and learn!

Thanks for your help,
Anthony
