So I roast my own blend and the shots I pull blond early and channel all over the place. I pull a shot with a Barefoot decaf esspreso blend, that has been in the fridge for a month (thawed of course) and the shot comes out almost perfect, no channeling or early blonding.

Using the same dosing and tamping technique, the only difference being the amount of coffe in the filter since the freshly roasted stuff requires less amount than the frozen one.

So I cannot figure out why shots with one blend come out better than with the other. Could the fact that one is decaf and the other is not make a difference?

It's the amount of coffee.

More coffee means more resistance.  Try updosing with the fresh-roasted coffee just like you did with the Barefoot decaf.

If the beans are not degassed, You might get a fast extraction anyway, but it shouldn't be as big of an issue.. hardly noticeable.

I have updosed with the freshly roasted one but then the puck starts rubbing the filter screen and then things get really ugly.
