Thanks,

Three I can think of off the top of my head -- Higher Grounds, Joe, and Kudo Beans.  I like Higher Grounds a lot -- it's in the E. Village on 9th St. and Ave. C.  Joe is in the W. Village, on Waverly I think.  I've never been to Kudo Beans (don't even know where it is, in fact!) but some New Yorkers love it.

I've also gotten good shots at Oren's Daily Roast and Porto Rico, although those are a little more hit and miss.

Have fun!

Dalton

I can certainly recoomend Joe. We spent a weeks vacation in Manhattan in September and stayed a few blocks from there. It's at 141 Waverly Place, just off 6th Ave.
If you do make it there, perhaps you can let us know if they started selling t-shirts yet? I left just before they were supposed to be coming in and it's a major regret I never arranged to get one before I flew back to the UK.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend and be sure to let us know how it went, coffee-wise....

You weren't wrong about Joe. I was completely impressed with their drinks. They have the right attitude about coffe and it serves them well. In a city with over 600 Starbucks, Joe is thriving.

I met Joe, he is really in to what he is doing there, although there still are no tee shirts available!! BTW, Steve, he remembered you. You were the guy with the rosetta pattern on the back of your shirt, right?

What is sad is that in such a big city with thousands of esspresso bars, there are only a handful of good ones.

Thanks for the tip

Beleive me - it's even sadder living here!  I've learned to be thankful for the few really good coffee shops around and to never, ever order espresso from an unknown cafe.  It's sad that it has to be that way, but I've been burned by truly, truly awful coffee too many times to risk it anymore.

Woohoo! Fame at last!  Yeah that was me, I wore a t-shirt I'd bought at Rao's (another great coffee shop)  when I was in Amherst, MA. last summer.  It gave them the idea to do the same with their shirts. I wonder if that's the reason for the delay...

I'm back across to Chicago soon and I'm sorely tempted to get a flight to NYC at the weekend and re-visit Joe... It'd be an expensive cup of coffee! I guess I'll just make do with Intelligentsia.

Anyway, I'm glad you approved of my recommendation. Did you make it to Higher Grounds or Kudo Beans?

Sadly, I was only there for the weekend and didn't have time for the others. I go to NYC often and will hit them next time.

Thanks for the recommendations

New World Coffee is a chain that serves great coffee, there are too many of them. On 6th Ave. and about 9th or 10th St. on the west side of 6th and another on 6th Ave. around 13th or 12th St. on the NE corner. Don't live in the rotten apple any more and when I left I had to learn to roast my own beans.
