Posted Mon Mar 24, 2008, 3:25pm Subject: BEZZERA O-RING GASKET?
Hello,
I hope someone can help. I've had my Bezzera BZ02s DE for about two years,.. I've never changed the o-ring, .....(I know ...) I've taken the screen off, and the defuse disc (sp?) out, and what seems to be an o-ring is completely flat,..caked on.
A few questions: A) Is that the o-ring I"m looking at? B) Do I take an icepick to it? to remove it? C) Do I have options on who I can buy a few replacements from? IF so could you please let me know which ones? Thank you so much.
It may be the gasket you're looking at. You don't need to take off the screen and dispersion block though to see it. It should have been visible all the time.
I take out the screen and dispersion block at least once a month for cleaning. There is always some caked/baked coffee residue on the outer edge of the dispersion block that you need to scrape off.
If you change your gasket make sure you clean/scrape the seating surface thoroughly. If not you can have a good seal from gasket to portafilter, but a poor seal and leak between the grouphead and the gasket.
I average five shots a day with mine and do the following. - after each session, backflush with water - weekly or sooner, backflush with Joe Glo http://www.joeglo.com/ - monthly or sooner, remove and clean shower screen and dispersion block - yearly or sooner, replace group gasket
Troy, Thank you for the suggestions,...on cleaning do you or for that matter anyone else know of a substance I could use to dissolve the small rubber particles in the seating surface once I successfully remove the main chunk of the gasket?
I don't know of anything that would dissolve the remaining rubber bits. Stuff like that makes me nervous anyway. Just carefully scrape without gouging, I used a slotted screw driver.
Just reporting back, so far the screw idea worked, kida of. I had to drill a pilot hole first with a dremel, that gasket was a fossil, a rock, carbon, it was hard. I managed to take it out. Now I'm going to order or am in the process of ordering a gasket. I'm not getting some simple questions answered for the last 3 days. I'll report back on the outcome.
I can post pictures tonight if you wish on how I did mine.
Essentially I bought brass screws, (small, with a wide thread). I used my dremel tool to make a few pilot holes around the fosseled gasket. I then started screwing in the brass screws, once in I took my small pliers, and tugged on the screw,....it works like a charm. It came out in 1/4 pieces, but it came out. The gasket is like a rock.
Good work, that's a shiny lookin' grouphead. Buy a few gaskets at a time so you always have and extra or two around.
I'll also alter what I said earlier about my machine cleaning schedule.
From now on, every time I do the weekly backflush with JoeGlo I will be taking apart and cleaning the shower screen and dispersion block. Reason being, the there's just too much scunge that builds up around the edge of the dispersion block where the screen fits on.
