While I have been told there is not a good store bought pre ground coffee available at the grocer, I decided to get the Cafe from Publix so I could at least give it a try. This seems to be a popular cuban coffee, so I pumped out a shot into a glass with a teaspoon of sugar. Go ahead and gag, I'm sure you don't like this, LOL, but since i travel to miami and have a cuban coffee once in awhile, I enjoyed it.
I decided it is going to take me a little longer to understand the espresso thing, so rather than rush to get beans and an expensive grinder, I am going to read around a bit more before making a purchase. I could have gone to starbucks and had a bag of their beans ground but it doesn't sound like there are a lot of fans of that coffee here either.

David, research is good, as long as it doesn't lead to paralysis. Just remember that until you get a grinder and fresh beans, you are putting yourself "in a hole" from the get-go. In other words, you are starting at a disadvantage that is nearly impossible to overcome.

That $400+ grinder can be used for ALL of your coffee, not just espresso, the Brazatta Vario seems to be able to do many jobs well. I know at first I thought that a grinder was a grinder and what is the big deal about spending big bucks on a grinder.......until I used a good grinder and now I find it is impossible to go back to anything I had before.

David -
I enjoyed Cuban espresso during the years I worked in Tampa. The bakery where I got it used Bustello, pulled into a small pitcher that had sugar in it, and then poured three or four cafecitos from that.
If you like what you're making, good for you. Before you start sinking money into the espresso habit, see if you can find some cafes that serve espresso and see if you like what you get from them. This will give you a pretty good sense of whether you are interested in putting more time and money into your coffee.
