Hi - we purchased an Ascaso Arc espresso machine in March 2010. It had been working fine - excellent actually - until yesterday. When you turn it on and prepare to purge it, a lot of steam is coming out of the filter holder (much more than usual) and it is making a lot more noise. It almost seems as though it is overheating. Once purged and the filter holder inserted, it begins its usual process but soon shows signs of what I describe as overheating. A lot more steam then usual and more noise. On two occasions yesterday when I removed the filter holder it made a very loud pop and sent coffee grinds all over the kitchen. You can tell there is a lot of pressure building up in the machine. We have never had any problems with it.
We tried using a coarser grind for the espresso but it did not make a difference. We decalcify the machine every 3-6 months and only make, on average, about 4-6 shots per week.

I am still starting out and do not know your machine, so this might be wrong. But when I was researching my pump going out one of the videos of a machine like mine with the pump going out showed a lot steam coming out of the group head. The water was not moving fast enough so the water was over heating causing steam at the group head. So I am guessing that it could be a blockage from scale or a bad pump. But as I said, I am just starting out.
good luck.
