In a HX machine with a E61 brew group it's the water inside the HX line that overheats not the brew head. The cooling flush is supposed to bring down the temperature of brewing water, which works pretty fast. You just let the water run until it comes out without a sputter of steam, but in a single stream.
The E61 is a solid pease of metal. It would take quite a while to "cool it down" using hot water. Besides, it's not necessary.
