Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of a person/place that can repair my Espressione Cafe Retro espresso machine in the DC/MD/VA area? The "official" repairs are done by a place in NJ (quite rude when I called too) but requires you to send the machine there for servicing. My machine's already not working so I don't want to deal with damages during shipping too!
Issue: As soon as the warranty expired (of course), the water stopped coming out and now just barely drips and sputters. The water heats and the pressure is fine, just the water doesn't come out anymore!

Lilyvet,
I own three Café Retro and use them extensively for the past three years. I had problem with only one, when air got in the system and wouldn't pass water. I did send it to NJ, and repairs were done promptly... the machine had developed an air lock (air got trapped in the system and had to be purged.)... It happened again on another machine, when it ran out of water while making coffee. This time I filled the water tank and let it run (about 5 mins) until it eventually purged itself of the air, and started pumping water without any problems.
If you water is running fine (without the portafilter), you're problem could be a plugged filter. There are two types, metal and a rubber diaphragm. you can take apart the metal portafilter (with difficulty but its doable) for cleaning. The rubber version (newer) diaphragm has a small hole and tends to plug up frequently... cleaning it with water clears it, but occasionally a needle gently inserted in the tiny hole does the job. The rubber version tend to tear easily, but replacements are available. I prefer the metal since it make a nicer heavy creme espresso, but they has stopped making them.
