I ordered coffee from Cafe Fresco, 2 bags one of Peru and one of Ambrosia, both espresso roast on October 28th. These were roasted(i assume that day) and shipped out on October 29th, however due to the storm Sandy the package seems to have been rerouted due to the post office in Pennsylvania unable to process due to flooding or power outage.
Anyway, I still have not received the coffee. When I emailed Tony he said it would be fine when it finally gets here.
My question is will it really be fine? It has now been over 18 days after it was roasted and the coffee is who knows where with no estimated arrival date and being stored in unknown conditions. (I am in NJ and it was shipped USPS Priority). Being severely effected by the storm myself.
My concern is I am now going to receive coffee that was sitting who knows were for over 18+ days after roast. I was expecting a certain fresh product and now I dont think I will be getting the coffee when it can be enjoyed at its peak and best time to drink. Am I wrong here? I was told to "just be patient" but I am little perturbed on the type of product I may finally get especially since it is fairly expensive in the first place
It is already 18+ days post roast and who knows how much longer it will take to arrive. Would it be in poor taste to ask for new coffee to be sent in its place? or just a refund? I dont want to sound petty in the wake of our disaster but it is really annoying me. Any input appreciated on my main question which is "will this product be past prime and what would you do if you were Tony and someone bought your product and this happened."
I have dealt with Cafe Fresco several times in past and have always been happy. I never really let the coffee get older that 2 weeks before I finished it.

It will be what it is, the peak flavor window is about two weeks or so but it will not be garbage after that, it just will not be all it could have been. When it does get to you, break it into one day or so packs, remove the air as much as possible and then place in the coldest, deepest part of your freezer. Let it come to room temp before use. This will keep it the best it can be until it is used up.
As I said, it may not be the very best it could have been but I would use it if it were me, sometimes stuff just happens and you need to do the best you can.
I don't think you will be able to submit a claim against the PO. The vast majority of people don't get as "fussy" about coffee as we get and you will likely as not, have a very hard time getting anyone to understand that you have been harmed when you do finally get the coffee, there it is, what is wrong with it???? will likely be the reply.

That is a great idea, and if frozen, will STILL be better than anything from a market, S-Bucks, etc. BTW, Tony is a GREAT guy, and if the OP send an email explaining the situation, he'll probably get a bit of "help" on his next order.
