For the most part, tampers are tampers. If they fit the basket and the handle fits your hand, it is hard to go wrong. The plastic things that come with most machines, for the most part do neither and are only good for things like use as a weight in the throat of a grinder to prevent the beans from popcorning IMHO.
My personal feeling is that if you want a R.B. then buy a real one. There are darn few products that someone can not make for less money when they only copy the work that someone else has done and invested their money in.
I do not own a R.B. and I have not used a hand tamper for years except for when I am on vacation and am away from my normal setup. The one I bought did not pretend to be a R.B. and I bought from a advertiser on this sight, I think it cost in the ball park of $25. It works well when I use it. YMMV!
A very quick search turned up these tampers, they cost $11 and there is no reason that they should not work if cost is the main concern. Click Here (www.seattlecoffeegear.com)

$11 only buys the handle - the pull down menu adds $25 for the base. Good to see they offer many different base sizes though.
I bought a similar looking tamper to the one in the OP's eBay link for $25 from Reunion Island Coffee. The price is good and it ships with two 58 mm bases - a flat and a convex are both included with the handle.
