Posted Tue Dec 11, 2012, 4:36am Subject: Standard coffee recipes?
I have trawled around CG looking for an answer to this question for some time now, but to no avail. I am a barista who has worked in a fair few different cafes many of which have very different recipes for different drinks. For example, my initial training would have me believe that a flat white (yes, I'm an Aussie) is made in the same cup as a latte (usually an over diluted single shot in an 8oz cup) - in fact the only difference from a latte is that is have very little, if any micro foam. However, I am currently working in the UK and it seems that the standard flat white here is a small (yes still an 8oz but smaller than the starbucks/costa induced 12oz `regular` - whatever the heck that means) double shot with milk texture exactly that of a latte (what I'd call a double latte). Now, I know that there is no right or wrong, it all comes down to preference - but, is there a standard menu? or perhaps a regional guide? Or even just a general consensus? perhaps there is no direct answer, and a general discussion is required.
