what happened is very simple you have an aluminum porta filter and it was polished. the harsh chemicals in the dishwasher disolved all the gloss on the Polish and expose the raw aluminum which is oxidized. once you remove the oxidized metal (which will drop off your fingers) then it will be safe to use.
EDIT: Just adding that we have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer that has an aluminum beater, it wound up in the dishwasher by accident and the exact same thing happened, it went from a nice shiny polished beater to a dull grey one that had aluminum oxide rubbing off onto your fingers. A scrub with Scotchbright took off the oxidation but left a dull but clean surface that is perfectly useable. YMMV!

The shine on the p/f is not plating, it is simply highly polished aluminum. Yes, the p/f came out dull grey, and did leave a black residue on my hands and the polishing rag. The shine never came back, but once all the black gunk was off, I continued to use it for about 6 months, until I upgraded to my Evolution. Pic is attached, taken after I drilled off the bottom and converted it to naked. BTW it was one of my best shots from the cheapo Hamilton Beach. Proof that a cheap machine and a good grinder can make great espresso!!
