I've had a Rancilio Sylvia for several years and - like a chump - have been using the plastic tamper the machine came with. I read somewhere online (perhaps errantly?) that the Rattleware 58 mm tamper would be the correct fit, so I put it on my Christmas list. I received the tamper with great delight but was disappointed at the less than ideal fit with the stock Rancilio double basket seems way to big, even with over dosing.
Wondering what to do. As this was a gift, I'd prefer not to go through the hassle of a return. Is there another basket I should be looking at anyhow? Do I just have no idea how things things really should fit? It seems to fit in the single basket really well - flush with the sides until the taper.
Any help (with links!) would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same tamper as well as the stock baskets. Both fit nicely with the RW 58mm tamper. You should have maybe 1mm clearance all around. If you’re looking for a tighter fit you may need to look for a custom built tamper specific to Rancilio. I would measure it to make sure. a customer may have been looking at sizes and swapped yours out with a 57mm.

I know exactly what you mean since we sell both the silvia and Rattleware tamper the tamper is a little bigger in diameter then some other one and the original rancilio basket has the inward clip channel so the tamper stops right there However your coffee once inside the basket should reach right there and the tamper will still be able to do his job
