I just recently switched to a triple basket with straight sides and a flat bottom (different from my double...). I am noticing that the shot starts at the edges and takes a while before anything comes from the middle. Any tips on how to even out the extraction? Im trying to distribute to the edges as best I can but even with 21g of coffee it is well below the edge. The shots are tasting fine, just wonder if they would taste better if I could even out the extraction...
(BTW this is my first time video taping and editing... hope it is ok. Took about 2 hours to figure out the text and fade... :-) )

Nice looking shot.
You can get it more even by using nutation to compress the edges slightly more than the centre. Keep in mind though, you may need to do the final tamp with less pressure or grind slightly more coarse to get the same extraction time if you use nutation.

Great video. I am having the same issues however mine are worse. I just switched to a triple basket Ranchilio bottomless port and have been unsure of the dosage. Getting tons of side channeling. Going to try to n s e w tamp more exclusevely. Really glad you posted this one! Still a really nice looking shot.

One thing I have done that seems to be helping is that as I am dosing directly into the portafilter and basket from the Vario, I angle the PF and rotate it at the same time so that as the grinds fall I am filling up the sides of the basket first instead of getting a dome in the center. Then I level slightly and tamp N S E W.
