Hey, If you regularly descale a HX machine will there still be scale build up on the "Mushroom", I see a lot of info about the build up on these and does just routine descaling take care of this, or will I still need to do this maintenance?

The mushroom is used as an indicator as to when you need to descale and how effective the descaling was. It is a simple matter to remove it and so it is the best way to judge the effectiveness of the water treatment program and maintenance scheduling.

A little scale on the mushroom won't cause any problems, it just means there's a little scale everywhere and that you should descale before you get enough to actually affect the flow through the thermosiphon and/or other parts of the machine.

SO basically it is good to check this out one and a while to make sure that my descaling system is working correct? I have pretty hard water, but will be using a pur water filter to fill, and my machine has a in line softener as well.

You can guess that they are working, or you can be sure before scale builds- use the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals GH + KH test kit. Both general hardness and alkalinity (KH) need to be present for scale to form. iirc, the Pur filters do not effectively soften the water. The Britas do to some extent. The kit can be sued on water from the group (after it has cooled) to test the effectiveness of the in-tank filter as well.
