I purchased a used mini and it was dirty, the doser was gross etc. After doing some searches I found people were using Cafiza as a general cleaner for all things coffee.
This was a mistake, I think..... I got the cafiza, read its simple, completely lacking instructions on the container. Took all the pieces from the Grinder that I could get off, doser, burrs, plastic shield, thing that holds the portafilter, the aluminum mounting plate that works in conjunction with the resistance springs, the springs themselves, EVERYTHING, that I could get off.
Now I have black/grey residue on the some of the pieces, specifically that mounting plate, and I think in the inside base piece of the doser, and the portafilter thing. The burrs have slight amount of rust in between the blades. On the brightside everything is clean as heck, thing looks brand new.
Did I just ruin these pieces? Ruin everything? I was going to put everything back together tonight and run the burr cleaner I got, and a bunch of rice through it.
When I get home I'll take some pics and upload them if that would help.

Cafiza is basically a sort of TSP for backflushing, and it will/can turn aluminum dark. As long as it was all rinsed thoroughly there should not be a problem other than appearance. If you can access the dark parts, Barkeeper's Friend should bring the shine back.

I am not worried about the shine as much as the residue still on the equipment that I can seemingly rub off with my finger. I might have to take apart the doser, and clean that too.
Any suggestions for a different clean that can be used on aluminum safely, or will the Barkeepers Friend do that for me?

A microfiber rag and water is my first choice. Microfiber with alcohol the second. After that I use "Windox" which is my homemade windex, but with no colors or scent added. Water, alcohol, ammonia, and a bit of diswashing liquid. Google "make your own windex."
For the exposed, shiny areas of the aluminum, you could use flour of pumice and some water. Finish with a rag impregnated with jeweler's rouge. They come that way, or get some rouge and rub it on a rag and hand buff.
