I am new around here, having just purchased a used Starbucks Barista. I have looked all over the place and cannot find any specific instructions or help for replacing the steam button switch. I bought a used machine and from the time of purchase, the steam button wouldn't depress. Opened it up to find that it had melted and broken off inside. I have ordered a new steam button switch. It seems simple to disconnect the back half from its three connectors, but I cannot figure out how to get the front half of the switch/button out. Thanks in advance!

My guess in that the new switch gets installed by pushing it into the machine. So getting the old one out will involve the reverse. If the old switch is melted it may not cooperate. In that case, a pair of pliers will take care of things.
Looking at the parts diagram part 32 & 33 & 12 are switches. It looks like you squeeze the sides in and then the switch comes out through the front. You will see that most easily on a new switch, but if you go to 12 away from the melt down, you can probably squeeze in the sides and pull it out just to confirm.

Thanks! I had already posted a question on ifixit, since no one had addressed problems with switches before. No one has answered yet over there, you folks were much quicker. :)
The partsguru diagram was pretty helpful. I was able to pop one side of the switch out (of the front) with a plastic spackling tool, but I think pliers will have to get the job finished.

On my Gaggia those side tabs are metal and very hard to compress. I pulled the switches forward when adding a PID. Sounds like you have it figured. Hope it all works well, if not ask again.
