I love Greenway (I have been enjoying this recently: Click Here (www.greenwaycoffee.com)), so when my wife came home with it, I thought cool, why not give it a try. Sure enough, though, it gave me that nasty detergent flavor in espresso; I also tried it in a Clever dripper, which was better, but still off-putting.
In the mood to experiment, I decreased the dose from 16g to 12g, tightened the grind, and pulled another shot. This time it tasted very nice, not exactly the kind of shot I crave, but still very good; none of that weird detergent flavor.
Now I'm curious to find out what this weird flavor is. Can anyone fill me in on what might be causing it? And why a lower dose and tighter grind might eliminate it?

So I've had a lot of drip experiences with a wide variety of Indonesian beans since they're plentiful in South East Asia where I'm from, but I have never seen anyone here use an Indonesian single origin as an espresso...I've used Indonesians in drips, and it's good in espresso blends to balance out acidity. Never had a "detergent" taste before though. Are you sure it's not a kind've earthy/soil/vegetation taste which a lot of Indonesian beans have? haha sorry I'm not sure how to describe it.
