Unfortunately...... for medical reasons..... I may need to reduce or possibly cut out my caffeine intake. God help me if I have to give up 100% of my beloved caffeine. In the last year, around 1000 of the best spent dollars in my life have left me to purchase my  Mrs. Silvia, Mr. Rocky, Capresso MT 500, heat gun, tamper etc...I hate to even think of having to give it up. My question is simply how much caffeine is in decaf coffee? Does it make a difference if it's  WP vs. SWP? I've got 4 lbs of SM donkey blend on order to start with. I've never drank decaf in my life but have been told that it has some caffeine? Thanks to all......(please help,,,,, I freakin' out a little).

I have no idea how much caffeine is in decaf, or what levels even qualify as decaf. As a long time decaf consumer, I can tell you that the blends I have purchased since buying my Solis haven't bothered me. Except Vivace. A double shot will give me a buzz so I know it's loaded. Yes, all decaf has some caffeine, some more than others, but I haven't found specs on any of the roasters' web sites. I just go by feel. Once you've been off the high-test stuff for awhile you'll develop a sensitivity to caffeine. You will know when it's there in higher levels.

I'm sorry you may be forced to give up caffeine totally. Maybe you'll be fine just cutting way back. Not only using decaf blends but also not drinking as much coffee. Don't forget chocolate and a lot of drinks contain caffeine. Learn to be a good label reader. It's amazing how often that stuff shows up where you wouldn't expect it. I "gave up" caffeine 20 years ago and survived so I'm sure you willl as well. One thing about cutting back, you'll enjoy the coffee you do drink more ;)

Thanks for the support Pam. I've never been a big soda drinker so cutting that out is no big deal and I've cut out chocolate out for the most part.

I've gone from 1 americano in AM and a cappa in afternoon to only 1/2 americano in AM and It has never tasted so good!! I'm a home roaster so I'll just have to try some blends out and see what works for me. If anyone has some favorite green decaf  blends for americano/cappas I would love to give them a try Thanks

i think to be classified as decaf the beans have to be 97% caffeine free. i'm not sure if the different decaffeination process give differing levels between 97 and 100% caffeine free, but they will all be in that range.

not 97% caffeine free, 97% of the caffeine has to be taken out :-)

If it was 97% caffeine free, most coffees would be decaf....
