I saw no mention of the alternative. I get the impression that you may use a electric wand mixer type, perhaps while heating the milk, and get the same effect. What kinda bubble texture do you get from those wand thingies?

If you got that impression then you read something different than I did. The only way to get that texture is by learning how to steam milk. The reason no alternative to steaming is mentioned is because there IS no alternative to steaming to create microfoam.
Of course you are absolutely free to heat and stir your milk however you wish. Those gadgets will never properly microfoam milk. (Period)

Ah. Then as far as a steamer goes; it's just a heated container with a tube so you can't go wrong there right? A stovetop steamer should do fine then (though take some skill)?

I agree with Damocles and JonR ... its relatively quick to make it taste great but another world to make it look great !!
That 5-6 leaf rosetta set me back a million years .... I'm back to trying to keep the pour in the cup let alone art !!! (smile) Anyone for a quick etch !! (Sigh !)

yeah, something about the latte art piqued my interest. Plus you can drink it! I saw a simple bialetti stovetop thingy for 25 buck that I'll have to get... Just means more fun... BTW-how exactly do you pronounce Macchiato? I was accidentally watching Will and Grace and Will said it funny. Well, maybe not accidentally... Hmm... I guess I watch Will and Grace.
