Personally, I'm not a huge fan of email notifications unless it's a very important thread to me. All it takes is forgetting to uncheck the box on a couple popular threads to have a full inbox. I know this wouldn't be a huge problem, but I like to see things as low maintenance as possible.
That being said, I'd like to see the user's ability to keep up with interesting threads improved. For what it's worth I suggested a small box with the 5 last threads you responded to below the area where "new posts" are presently listed. Instead of the 5 most recent threads maybe you could "subscribe" to up to 5 threads and it would just place links in there; kind of like the new "quick links" feature in gmail. That'd be pretty sweet in my opinion.
I would prefer to be able to check a profile box to cause all email notifications for all posts either created or replied to. A handy feature that I have seen is that in the notifying email, it is possible to easily terminate email notifications on that topic.
Keeping the current feature of checking the box below a single topic would keep current functionality.
I could simply remember to check the box at the end of each post I make, but I can just as easily forget.
Anyone not wanting to get email notifications could simply uncheck the feature in their profile / list of selections.
Thanks again for your review of this suggestion.
Dealing with an operator that hasn't had his coffee yet, is kinda like finding an alligator in the pump you're supposed to service.
