Hi all.  I'm a new member but have been trolling on this site for a few days in order to do some research on what type of espresso maker to upgrade to.  I currently have a DeLonghi espresso/cappuccino maker (I know, it's not highly regarded) that was given to me as a gift a few years ago and while it still works great I am looking to move up to a REAL espresso maker for the discerning drinker.  Anyway, is there anyone here who is in the market to sell a gently used espresso maker that is of an upgraded quality from my DeLonghi?  I can't spend much more than $150 or so.  Thanks

Rob,

I know you're gonna be skeptical, but I think you would be amazed at the improvement a decent grinder would make--even with your current machine.

I'd suggest getting the best grinder you can for your $150 and start saving for another machine.  $150 won't get you the best grinder, but there are a couple of decent ones out there in that range.  I've seen some good press on the Capresso Infinity.

Jack

Thanks for the info Jack.  I've seen some posts that discuss this very issue and I'm now almost certain that a better grinder than my Krups is the way to go.  Any suggestions?  I have two, neither of which cost more than $30-40.  I have historically just ground up my coffee beans to a very fine ground and then prepared my cappuccino or espresso that way.  By the way, any suggestions on tampers?  I just use my coffee scooper to tamp down the grounds.  I've tried to do 30 lbs. or so of pressure for 20 seconds or so.  Thanks again.

I have a gaggia MDF grinder and a Silvia.  They work very well together and you will not be disappointed by the quality.

Good luck,
Brad

I was in a similar situation to you not too long ago and just yesterday, upgraded to a much larger machine. I have a Saeco Classico that has just been recently refurbished and I purchased it from a fellow CG'er about 3 months ago. It makes good espresso and is pretty easy to use. I paid $200 and have purchased a new non-pressurized portafilter and SS tamper to accompany it. I don' t know that I can do $159 but if interested, we can talk.

I didn't receive your email probably due to my "spam blocker.'" In my email address, take out the "removethis" portion of the address and it should work fine.
