About 2 years ago, we had another baby. About 5 minutes after that, the first time I woke him up with a vibe pump, I started lusting for a lever machine.
After playing around with an old Europiccola and a succession of hand grinders, I finally settled on a beautiful used MCAL from a respected and responsible fellow Coffeegeek and a Lido from Doug and Barb at OE.
It's been about a year of blissful mornings with the MCAL but the boy now sleeps through both the grinder and the vibe pump. That means the MCAL at least can go to a new home so my wife can free up an additional square foot of counter space.
The MCAL is in excellent condition, with only one small, nearly imperceptible "ding" and some minor and also nearly imperceptible scratches in the lacquer. I replaced the piston gaskets a couple of months ago.
It comes with both the stock and an OE brass Richard Penny bottomless portafilter. I'll ship it with 2 tampers (one is 49 mm and another one recently shaved down to 49.5 mm), an OE 49mm funnel (super slick, don't leave home without it!) and also 2 double and one single baskets.
FYI: the stock portafilter and the single basket are very useful for rinsing the gasket and screen between shots. I wiggle them slightly while holding the lever at the fill point to flush everything clean. It's pretty slick and warms next cup at the same time.
$900 shipped in the original box.
I have read several times that people sort of fall in love with these machines, but occasionally have a hard time getting crema or pull watery shots. I understand, but I have a suspicion that most of them are trying to pull shots with this machine using the same method as a pump machine. If you do so and it makes you happy, great. Personally, I'm getting terrifically thick, crema rich shots every time I watch what I'm doing. If this is your first lever machine or your first MCAL, I would prefer to talk to you about how I use it before you buy it.
Email me for a phone number and we'll talk.
