Given the fact that this is somewhat of a coffee Mecca, I was wondering if there is a local service that will cut a portafilter to make it bottomless? I already tried Clive, they don't do it.

I know espressoparts can do it, but they are just out of driving range and I wanted to avoid mailing it in.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You might try a local machine shop. There are a couple different methods they could use that wouldn't take more than a half hour or so max.

Espresso Parts has nice service I used where you mail-in your portafilter and they chop it of. $25 + shipping is good deal. Check it out here: http://www.espressoparts.com/F_PFMOD?&search_id=2407108

Hope this helps.

Do it yourself, all you need an something to hold the PF in an 1 1/4 hole saw and a drill ( at least i think it was 1 1.4 ) I have a hole saw that is meant for cutting the dead bolt hole through steel doors and it worked quite well. Use a file and some emery cloth to smooth it out and your golden. There is actually  a picture of it in the forum somewhere still.I'll give it a bump so you can see how it looks. Tho i have to say the ones you buy from Chris coffee are all really nicely chromed not just cut out so you see the brass underneath.
Have fun.
