Hi,

The only roaster I know in my area would be Peet's (Starbucks doesn't count). What is better out there? I live in Redmond and would like to avoid trips to Seattle to get beans, but I may do that too just to see the difference, so what you recommend in Seattle too (I'll try Vivace)?

Thanks,
YA

YA-
Of all places to be looking for roasters, you are in the right city!  This forum is literally littered with threads and posts about where to go in Seattle.  I'm not from there and have only been there twice, but here's a quick list of some great and interesting places to check out.

Hines Public Market Coffee
Zoka
Vivace
Lighthouse
Caffe D'Arte
Cafe Ladro

I'm sure that the more experienced and knowledgeable here will add to the list of other great places.

Well the thing is... I don't want to go to Seattle! I want something on the East side to be able to buy fresh beans from without turning it into a 2 hours trip each time... I'll check some of those places (like the ones you mentionned) on occasion bit really Redmond/Bellevue is where I'd like to be able to buy.

YA:  Run, do not walk, to Hines Public Market Coffee on Westlake Ave. in Seattle.  Previously mentioned Zoka and Vivace are excellent, as is Caffe Vita.  They're worth moving from Redmond to Seattle.

Try Caffe Lusso in Redmond. Philip Meech will actually pull some shots from his different roasts and blend what you like.

The list is actually upwards of  30ish Roasters/destination caffe's. :)) I would be happy to give anyone a local historical tour of them!:))

Did you ever find any good roasters on the Eastside?  Have you tried Victors Coffee & Roasters in Redmond?  I haven't, I just saw them today.

Man, I'd _love_ it if I had a decent roaster in the entire city of Atlanta or even in the entire state of Georgia, which is a large part of what's driving me to open my own freakin' place sooner rather than later. Even Atlanta's first roaster (still in business) doesn't use robusta in their espresso blend (they only have 1 !!) and stores their beans in unsealed glass jars that who knows are how many days/weeks old.

For now and the forseeable future, I'll keep roasting my own beans.

Hello All,

Phil here, Caffe Lusso Coffee Roasters.  Thanks for the kind words!  Just wanted to invite you all to drop in the Roastery in Redmond if you're in the neighborhood.  One curious critter that you will find here (not including me) would be our mid-1970s La Marzocco GS-1 paddle-group machine.  I'd be happy to pull you a double ristretto, and it's on me if you mention Coffee Geek (Offer good through 2004)!  And if the owners of this site don't mind a quick and shameless plug, we have some fantastic new crop offerings in as well.  :-)

Cheers,

Phil
