Remember to obscure your e-mail, especially in posts. I forgot recently and now I'm getting spam after only 24 hours (the famous Nigeria scam). Since I'd created the e-mail exclusively for this board, I know where it came from. :-o My personal favorite way of obscuring: y our.email@removeMe.andMeTo.yourRealISP.com. Posts like this one are begging for a fresh load of spam.

Sigh... it ain't fun being the cap'n sometimes :) I *have* to have not just one, but several emails addresses visible throughout the site (info, partners, admin, mark, mark at coffeekid, etc), and well, even with Spam Assassin running full bore, I get about 250 a day (caught by SA), and about 75 or more that "leak through". If I set SA any tougher, it will catch too many legit emails.

Why not have the e-mails hidden until the reader logs in? That is, clicking a member's e-mail link would lead to the login page, thereafter they'd be displayed in the clear. Or at least pose a human readable "test phrase" (see below)? That would encourage more CGs to include their e-mails. I know that's why I didn't specify one, and when I finally did, why I used an e-mail created exclusively for this board. You might not benefit from this approach since you want to be more easily accessible, but the average member would.
Sad truth is, once one of my e-mails gets bogged down in spam, I delete it. I have just one or two that have remained the same for years because I don't post with them or give them to e-commerce sites.

We might do that, but I think the two email system thing works well - the private one which is so private, I can't just go and do a simple query in our WIPS control interface to find it - that's the one used to confirm your membership, or to contact you if you've won something (or asked for notifications). The public one we encourage people to "mung" it somewhat to spoof the evil, sewer-smelling spammers and spambots.

I've used javascripts that "encrypt" the email address and only present the correct address to the user when the link or button is clicked on. Harvesters can't read the code... I've used them in the past and they work 99% of the time, the only fault would be if someone has JS disabled, most people allow JS but will disable Java.
