i know this is not espresso or coffee related directly but it is coffee shop/house. we like the idea of having italian ice in our shop but all the ones we have seen have bright colors i was under the impression that you make them with the same syrups that you use for the coffee drinks we live by monin syrups!!!! do we need to buy some type of special stuff or do we use snow cone flavors (for the love of god tell me no on that one) and if any one has any cool recipes let me know please
I know for sure that at least one shop here uses Monin syrups for Italian sodas and some excellent frozen concoctions. I don't know, somehow Italian ices I have had are more...elegant? A lemon Italian ice I had recently contained grated lemon peel, for example, and probably used lemon juice instead of syrup. No bright color.
Syrup manufacturers, including Monin, might have recipes for Italian ices on their website recipe pages.
EDIT: or maybe syrup company customer service people can help you.
I also know for sure that I have never had an Italian ice that tasted anything like the snow cones I've had.
